Combining Technology and Agriculture for Olive Growing

Combining Technology and Agriculture for Olive Growing

From Soil to Software

At Wattle Hill Olives, nestled in the cool-climate hills of Tasmania, we’ve always believed that great olive oil begins with a deep respect for the land—and a willingness to innovate. As a family-run grove, we’re proud to blend traditional farming values with cutting-edge technology to create extra virgin olive oil that’s as sustainable and traceable as it is delicious.

Growing Smarter, Not Harder

While our hands are in the soil, our eyes are on the data. From the moment we took ownership of the grove, we began investing in technology that could make our farming practices more efficient, informed, and environmentally conscious.

Our grove is now equipped with a network of IoT (Internet of Things) sensors that monitor everything from soil moisture to microclimate conditions. This real-time data allows us to make precise decisions about irrigation and fertiliser use—minimising waste and supporting healthier, more resilient trees.

AI for Olives

One of our proudest achievements has been integrating AI tools to support harvest planning and grove health. Using drone imagery and satellite NDVI imagery, we can detect early signs of tree stress, disease, or nutrient deficiencies. These insights help us intervene early and gently, avoiding the need for heavy-handed treatment and supporting long-term grove health.

Where Traditions meets Innovation

At its core, Wattle Hill Olives is still a family farm. We walk the rows by hand, we know each tree by heart, and we celebrate every harvest with the same pride and joy as the first. But by embracing technology, we’re ensuring our grove is sustainable, efficient, and future-ready—without compromising the authenticity or flavour that defines our oil.

Whether you're tasting our award-winning First Harvest EVOO or following our journey online, know that every drop is the result of old-world passion enhanced by modern tools.
